As Carlos Vives slowly withdrew from the charts in the 21st century, roomopened up for a new pop-Vallenato star. Enter Juan Fernando Fonseca. Just 22years old when he released his eponymous 2002 debut in his native Colombia,Fonseca saw that album catapult him to instant stardom: songs like "Noche DeCarnaval," "Sueno" and "Magangue" became standard club fare. His 2006follow-up Corazon broke him internationally with "Te Mando Flores"and proved that the singer, while clearly treading a path first worn byVives and Juanes, is evolving his own voice.
